Debate: Image or Text?

I'm recently so in the mood for posting lavish and colourful images. I'd post some better quality and theme images if I were a better photographer... However I don't think this is my cup of tea and I believe all I can do is take 'diary' pictures - just to keep track of what I was impressed and inspired by... I very much admire people who are able to develop their own photographic style and have a concept - one needs to have talent for that. You probably noticed that my blog is very much about visual way of expression, I think I've been neglecting the 'written word' for quite some time now...

I'm very curious to know your thoughts about this. Do you prefer to read the text or do you prefer to see the images? What approach are you taking towards your own blogs? For me blogs are mostly about seeing things, of course I do read as well, but images are playing a huge role in perception for me.

Curiously, there is a theory that we could be roughly divided into 3 groups as far as the ways we learn are concerned. There are the so-called 'visual' people who learn by seeing things (if you want to teach such a person something, make a Power Point presentation, provide schemes, handouts, etc). The second group is 'auditory' learners who learn by hearing things (listening to a lecture for example, learning the language by listening to tapes) and the third (apparently the smallest) group are the people called kinesthetic learners, who learn by actually doing things. If you want to teach such people something you actually need to let them do that and they would quickly learn by trial and error.

So what kind of a person are you? I wish I was 3 in one - that would be a great combination... But I guess I'm a very strong visual plus quite good auditory learner - I guess I would score lowest in learning by doing...

I believe we are all Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic at the same time, just having an 'inclination' to one / two of those three.

I know my 'weakest' is reading, which might fall under Visual. Maybe not weakest, but the last learning method I find myself relying upon the last.
I learn things best by actually applying (i.e. doing it, hands on), and listening if help is needed.

We might make a good team since we approach things differently :)

I'm definitely very much a verbal person - I remember things in terms of words, descriptions, conversations. I battle to remember images or faces.

I love photography though and I love the pictures on your blog! keep posting them please!

I think I'm a cross between visual and auditory. And for me I think they way you have been doing your blog is great. YOu give us amazing images to look at while providing just enough text to give us information but not too much where we lose interest. I think you are a wonderful photographer that has loads of talent!!

I don't have a special preference between image or text. It has always to do with the theme that i post. Actually, i don't upload too much photos and as writer i used to be in the past, i have a small preference about the text. That is when i upload. When i visit a blog, maybe i like to see pics. But it's a little complicated, anyway...

Have a nice day, my friend...

kinesthetic is the way i am perhaps..
;)
i can easily learn by doing things.
in addition to that,i prefer to see pictures or drawing to be more clear of what am i doing :)
here, both are the main focus for me,i can hardly says that i am a lazy person to read.haha but sometimes it enjoys me.
to you olga, you have such an interesting way in posting blog, keep up the "diary" way..
;)

What a great debate! Thanks for starting it, Olga...

For blogging, I find I prefer good photos with just enough text to explain them clearly - I think you do that well. Too many photos or too much text makes me 'switch off' before I get to the end of a post. This never happens with your posts!

I think there are more kinasthetic learners in this world than we realise. Traditional teaching methods have been auditory, followed by visual, and 'success' in the educational world has been judged by how well pupils and students match their teachers' styles, just as much as on their understanding their subjects.

I taught with a woman who had taken an unusual route into teaching - she had failed her school exams first time, trained and worked as a nurse, and later came into teaching. She was a kinasthetic learner and had an awful lot to teach the rest of her colleagues, all auditory/visual learners who had achieved 'success' through the more usual educational routes.

Here's a jokey but effective way to tell which kind of learner you are by your bad habits:

Auditory learners talk to themselves.

Visual learners doodle on their books.

Kinasthetic learners fidget.

Visual all the way. If a blog doesn't have any image I probably won't read it to begin with. It is just that my personal blog is all about art and craft and inspirations and so image is really important there and my blogging friends tend to be of the same mind.

Olga,
We are so much alike that I absolutely share your thoughts here. As you know my favorite hobby is photography. So, my blogs tend to be essentially visual which is also a way of expressing emotions and thoughts. Maybe this is because I spend my everyday time, at work, writing and reading a lot, really A LOT!. I have to write “big pieces” (you know what they are about…) and when I get home my way to relax is exactly doing the opposite. I don’t feel like writing a lot because, in fact, what I want is to do something completely different, like choosing pictures. Maybe I’m being a bit lazy (I confess) and my blog (“Manifesto”) could be a lot more interesting if I had the mood of writing about my favorite subjects: traveling, art, cinema, History, books (football and politics I’m never on the mood for that…I simply watch the news!) but blogging takes us so much time (at least for me, because of the pictures!) that I have no time to invest more than this much on blogging. At least for now. By the way…this is a very intelligent way of you to know your followers (you little devil!) I guess I’ll tell you more about my secret life :) if you two promise me you’ll come to Portugal next year!!!:)) Love TI
